Candace M.

Registered Veterinary Technician

North American Veterinary Technician Association, Member

North Carolina Association of Veterinary Technicians, Member

Candace developed an interest in veterinary medicine by working part-time on weekends and after school hours in patient services at a small animal hospital. During high school, she began pursuing a career in human healthcare and earned her certification as a nurse's assistant. Although she enjoyed her work as a CNA, she discovered a career opportunity that she felt better suited her. By working closely with a registered veterinary technician in her part-time job, Candace was able to find a way to bring her medical knowledge together with her love and desire to work with animals. She decided to advance her abilities and responsibilities within the profession by pursuing a licensed veterinary technician degree. She attended Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, NC, earned her associates degree of Applied Science in Veterinary Medical Technology in 2005, and then became a registered veterinary technician (RVT) in North Carolina. She has been a technician at River Ridge Veterinary Hospital since 2005 and is our most experienced technician. In addition to her veterinary work, Candace obtained her real estate license in 2017.

Candace and her husband Brannon have several pets: Tonka, a Boxer mix, and three domestic short-hair cats, Jada, Maverick & Goose.

Rusty R.

Veterinary Assistant

Rusty was completing his junior year at Appalachian State University in pursuit of a degree in history when he decided to change his focus to the veterinary field. He began his experience working in a small animal practice first in veterinary patient care and services and then as a veterinary assistant where he now has over 17 years of experience. He has been on staff at River Ridge Veterinary Hospital since its inception in 2004. Rusty is our most experienced veterinary assistant and when not directly caring for patients, he manages the inventory of our hospital pharmacy, our prescription food inventory and in-hospital supplies.

As many of you may know, Rusty is an avid Wake Forest University & Oakland Raiders sports enthusiast – now that’s a combination! He enjoys spending his time off watching and attending sports events. The family has a domestic short-hair cat Puffy, that Rusty adopted during his first veterinary assistant job.

Diana S.

Receptionist

As receptionist, Diana’s smiling face is the first person you are likely to see when you come through the doors at River Ridge Veterinary Hospital.  After years of working in Asheboro as a sheriff’s department correctional officer, Diana began to search for a way to apply her interpersonal communications skills with her lifelong love of animals and the desire to work in a medical field.  She found the perfect position for that combination - a veterinary hospital receptionist.  Diana got her start at this job in 1997 at a busy small animal hospital.  After 20 years of experience as a veterinary receptionist, she has literally seen it all!  In addition to sharing her friendly smile and compassion for the clients and patients she serves, she has acquired expert office management skills and can perform veterinary assistant duties when the need arises.

Diana lives with her son and enjoys being near her daughter's family (including her grandchildren!).  Diana, a self-proclaimed cat person, loves spending time with her two domestic short-hair cats, Barney and Charlotte.  Diana is also a passionate UNC Tarheel fan.

Darrell H.

Darrell has twenty-three years of service in law enforcement retiring in 2007 as the Lieutenant in charge of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Crime Laboratory. He also has nine year of service with the US Army as paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division with overseas tours of duty in Grenada, Panama and the Middle East.

Darrell and his wife have a special love of Pointers and they are active in volunteering with the Southeast German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue organization. He resides in Lewisville with wife Cindy and German Shorthair Pointers, Gunther, Kate and American Pointer Shelby.

Jamie G.

Registered Veterinary Technician

North American Veterinary Technician Association, Student Member

North Carolina Association of Veterinary Technicians, Student Member

We were introduced to Jamie 3 years ago after her freshman year at UNC Wilmington as a biology/animal science major.  She came to us seeking information and recommendations regarding her intended pursuit of a veterinary technician career.  Prior to being accepted into the veterinary technician program at Central Carolina Community College in 2015, she worked as a veterinary assistant in a small animal hospital and had accumulated 12 years of extensive experience with horse husbandry from her work at Riverwood Therapeutic Riding Center.  We have had the privilege of getting to know Jamie over the past year as part of her formal technician training required a weekly internship in a veterinary hospital.  This internship allowed her to hone her technician skill set and apply the practices and procedures she learned in the classroom to a real word environment.  In May 2017, Jamie graduated with an Associates degree in Applied Science of Veterinary Medical Technology.  She began work here at RRVH in June 2017 and will sit for the VTNE and state boards in the coming months. She currently lives in Clemmons with her family.
